Walter J. Escallier, age 86, Joplin, MO, passed away at 9:13 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at his home after a sudden illness. Walter was born December 7, 1927 in Temecula, California to the late Fernando C. and Nellie Escallier and had lived in Joplin since 1988.
He worked for the United States Postal Service and retired with more than 20 years of service. He was also a 22 year veteran of the United States Navy. Walter enjoyed fishing; watching sports and the St. Louis Cardinals. He married Betty Y. Fox on May 5, 1979 in Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 13, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Steve, in 1969.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucille Blankenship, Sterling Heights, Michigan, Elyse Woods, Murrieta, CA.,a step son, Dennis Outt and his wife, Davette, Webb City; two sisters, Elsie Crawford, National City, CA., Margaret Barnes, CA., three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A visitation was held on Friday October 25, 2013 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary, with a Graveside Service following at Temecula Public Cemetery at 11:30 am.
