Obituary

Vernon Wright Edmonds passed away peacefully on May 12, 2017 in Fallbrook, California at the age of 90. Vernon was born on December 31, 1926 in Randlett, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Edmonds and Lela (Edmonds) Shepard of California; sister Genevie Rodden of Broken Arrow, OK; and grandson, Rusty Albertson of Carlsbad, CA.

He is survived by his sisters, Eddie Mae Kohutek and Mary Francis Shinkle of Walters, OK; his three daughters, JoAnne Ahlers (Klaus Ahlers) of Pinehurst, NC; Vernel Albertson (Russ Albertson) of Carlsbad, CA; Susan Edmonds Guy (Joe Veca) of Fallbrook, CA; grandson, Jacob Vernon Guy of Fallbrook, CA; bookkeeper, June Edmonds; step-daughter Linda Barber (John Barber); step-son David Berry of Fallbrook, CA; Ross Guy of Fallbrook, CA. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the United States.

Vernon served as a member of the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was stationed in the combat zone on the USS Montezuma Castle and the USS Robert M. LaFollette.

He began his construction career in Downey, California serving as a general building contractor designing and building residential and commercial sites throughout the State including the current NorthGate mall and the Bank of America in Fallbrook.

Upon retirement, he purchased property in Rainbow California and developed a passion for growing specializing in protea, macadamias and avocadoes. His products were used in the Rose Parade and other events.

Vernon was an avid hunter, fisherman, water skier and a huge fan of the L.A. Lakers. He loved playing dominoes and telling friends and family stories of his childhood in Oklahoma and other adventurous escapades.

He loved dancing to country music, old westerns especially John Wayne, good food, and family get-togethers and maintained a broad scope of family and friends.

A tribute to his life will be held on May 21 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the East Ridge Clubhouse, 1140 Crescent Bend Place, Fallbrook, 92028.

Final resting place Grandfield Cemetery, Grandfield, Oklahoma.

He is at peace with the Lord.
