Obituary

Verle Alvin Williams was born April 8th, 1933, in New Virginia, Iowa in his grandparents' house, and went peacefully to live eternally with Jesus on Sunday, February 25th, 2024, after cardiopulmonary arrest.

Although he grew up the son of a farmhand in Iowa both sides of his family had a relative that signed the Declaration of Independence.

He was the oldest of the family and had 5 brothers and 1 sister, with only the "baby" of the family, Allen "Buck", holding the torch now.

After high school, he worked at a steel mill for 2 years, then served in the Army for 2 years, during the Korean War as a Corporal, and 6 years in the reserves; finishing as an E7 - Sergeant 1st Class.

He married Mary Sue Earley (Williams) June 2nd, 1957.  They were married almost 60 years, before she passed in 2016.

He earned a B.S in Business and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, while holding down 4 jobs, and using the GI Bill to help pay for school and to support his wife and eldest son Steven Lee.

Verle moved the family to Oregon to work with Johnson Controls as a Sales Engineer.  Despite not having any experience, he was hired immediately by an individual who saw great potential.  Their second son Randall Joe was born.  It was in Oregon that they dedicated their lives to Christ and renewed their marriage.  Then LeAnne Sue was born.  He was transferred to La Crescenta and then Rancho Bernardo as the Branch Manager.  (You can still see the Johnson Controls thermostats in many hospitals today.)  He transitioned to DLSK (Dunn, Lee, Smith, and Klein), then decided to go into business for himself.  Verle owned his own successful engineering firm, VAWA (Verle A. Williams & Associates, Inc.).  He saved his clients millions of dollars by saving energy, and thinking "outside of the box".  He's also worked in many states and countries providing consulting services, plus speaking at various conferences as the expert in thermal energy storage, cogeneration, etc.  In his later years, his Professional Engineer license allowed him to work on government contract jobs at Camp Pendleton, until he suffered a stroke in 2019.  They had no idea he was 86 years old.

In the 1960's, Verle and Mary started a bible study in their home.  That is when their vision of growing a church came into fruition, and Rancho Bernardo Baptist Church was founded (later called Grace Community, and presently LifeBridge).

He was an integral part of the Southwest Baptist Conference (now Converge Southwest), ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers), and AEE (Association of Energy Engineers).

In his 90 years, he lived in 27 places (22 of them before he was 30).  The majority (35) of his years were spent in Rancho Bernardo.

Verle predeceased his youngest brother, 3 kids/their spouses, 10 grandkids/spouses, and 6 great-grandkids.
