Obituary

"Tim " Born August 26, 1926 and went to the arms of his Creator on October 16, 2015, in Fallbrook, California. Tim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Thelma F. O'Reilly, children, Robert H. James (Lynn), Fallbrook CA, Maureen O'Reilly (Russell Pulver) Fallbrook CA, Rian O'Reilly of Paso Robles, CA, and Janet O'Reilly Haworth (Robert), Houston TX. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald A. James. Tim is also survived by five grandchildren, Caitlin and Austin Haworth, Robert James Jr., Robert James III, and Renee Rubio. Further, Tim is survived by five great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Tim also leaves behind his 2 sisters, Gerry Devine and Joan Hamilton of Yonkers, NY. He also leaves behind many extended family members through marriage whom he also greatly loved. Tim was born near New York City and grew up in Yonkers, NY. He attended Manhattan College, Brown University and Tufts University where he received his Bachelors degree. He was then commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War with distinction and later retired from the Marine Corps Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. He met his lovely wife Thelma while stationed at the Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk, VA. His long and very successful civilian career centered around management of the San Diego Office of Acacia Mutual Life Insurance in Mission Valley, CA from which he retired in 1990. Tim was very active in the Kiwanis Club of San Diego, the San Diego Navy League, the San Diego Armed Services, YMCA, and was most recently a member of the Board of Directors of Good Will Industries of San Diego. Tim was a major supporter of San Diego Botanical Gardens (formerly known as Quail Gardens) as well as many other charities. Tim was very proud of his support of Thelma in her work for over 50 years with the San Diego Begonia and Bromeliad Societies. He will be greatly missed.
