Peter Ceaser
Kuri
Aug 9, 1934 — Dec 12, 2018
Peter Ceasar Kuri, beloved son of Isabel (Contreras) Kuri (1910-1950), was born August 9, 1934 in Cananea, Sonora Mexico and raised in Douglas, Arizona before coming to California. He graduated from Garfield High School and attended East Los Angeles Junior College.
Pete was a hard worker and worked full-time for the B.F. Goodrich Tire Company while attending College at night. His buddies at work used to tease him and call him "professor" because he would be doing his homework on his lunch break.
Pete was committed to being a good husband and provider for his children. He was always reading and studying to better himself. He was intent on being an informed contributor to his community and country. He never missed an election and enjoyed listening to political debates and reading about current affairs as much as he loved listening to Dodger baseball on his transistor radio.
Pete loved music and movies. Trini Lopez, Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley and Julio Iglesias to name just a few. He was a wonderful dancer and enjoyed celebrations with his siblings. He was always hosting or attending dinner and dance parties with his sister, Rose Irene (Del Campo) Belleperche (1931- 2005) and his brothers, Sam Kuri, Donald Richard Kuri and David Mark Kuri (1943- 2009) and their spouses.
Pete loved to take snapshots and film 8mm movies of his family and his travels. We are so blessed to have these memories committed to film documenting just how much Pete loved life, loved exploration, and loved adventure. I remember hearing a story about Pete threatening to attempt to pole-vault over his garage while training for the LAPD.
It only makes sense that when Pete retired in 1999 from a career as a Rebar Engineer (Reinforcing Steel Detailer) that he enjoyed working as a Background Player in films and television. Pete was a regular sitting at the bar with Oliver Platt in the Showtime series, "!Huff" which also starred Hank Azaria and Blythe Danner. He was a carny in HBO's "Carnivale" and appeared in the movie, "Prey of The Chameleon" starring Daphne Zuniga, and Alexandra Paul. Pete loved being on the set, observing the behind the scenes action, talking to the cast and crew. But most of all he loved the craft service table and the catered lunches. He loved to eat and enjoyed all the great food options available from Call Time to Wrap.
Pete also loved watching movies, television and his novellas on Netflix. He missed his calling as a Casting Director having had an excellent recall of the names of actors and the characters they played. Pete was such a fabulous storyteller too. You didn't even have to see the show because he could bring the entire plot and details to life for you.
Pete loved his coffee and discovered he could keep up with his politics, his banking and bill paying on his iPad. He had no problem navigating the electronic age in his later years hooking up all his devices, and having them all connected via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in his home office where he would spend hours exploring the wonders of the internet while petting his furry little canine friends, Ruby, Smokey and Daisy, each taking turns on his lap.
Peter is survived by his wife Virginia; Daughters, Pamela Kuri, Bobbi Duprez and Judy Hannay; Son, Robert Mark Kuri; Grandchildren, Michael Kepler, Ashley (Hannay) Hardin, Jacob Hannay, Kayla Kuri, Zachary Hannay, Vincent Duprez, Ryan Kuri, Brandon Matney, ; Great Grandchildren, Vincent Duprez the 2nd, Corrie Rose Hardin, Andrew Duprez, Lydia Matney, Donovan Matney, Lorenzo Rivera and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
