Obituary

Ottis Thomas Blackmon, 83, of Pala passed away on November 15, 2015. Ottis was born on April 2, 1932 in Knight, Louisiana to the late Beatrice and Thomas Blackmon. Ottis is survived by his dear wife of 58 years, Jane Blackmon, his daughter, Denise Esquivel, and son, Wade Blackmon. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sonia Murray, Alejandro Esquivel, Anthony Esquivel, Matthew Roberto, Kendall Blackmon and Taylor Blackmon, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a sister, Haupevon Krakowski, two brothers, George and David, and many extended family members through marriage and dear friends. He is predeceased by his siblings, Leonard, Curtis, Frank, and Yvonne. Ottis was a U.S. Army veteran and served with distinction in the Korean War. Ottis met his lovely wife, Jane, while working in a shipyard in Galveston, Texas. Ottis and Jane raised their family on the Pala Indian Reservation. Ottis was a highly skilled plumber and wood craftsman. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, bluegrass music, dancing with his beautiful wife and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed.
