Obituary

Michael H. Brey from Fallbrook, CA passed away March 14, 2022, at the age of 66.   He was born in Waukegan, Illinois on April 7,1955 to Gerald Brey and Ann Corcoran Brey. Shortly after the birth of his brother Mark, the family relocated to Southern California settling down in Cherry Valley, CA

At the early age of 5, Mike discovered his love for cars, trucks and driving. He had fond memories of cranking up the family farm tractor at the age of 6.  He would drive the perimeter of their family farm the entire day until sunset until his grandmother summoned him by flicking the evening porch light on and off.  His love for driving became a lifetime commitment to the automotive world.

The family relocated to Chula Vista, CA where Mike attended and graduated Hilltop High School with academic honors.  He followed his automotive interest through college and graduated from Southwest College with a degree in Automotive Technology.  He was later employed by the U.S. Border Patrol as a diesel mechanic at Brown Field, San Diego, CA. While at Brown Field his interest in Law Enforcement peaked.  He applied and graduated with academic recognition from the U.S. Border Patrol Academy class 16PI-104 at Glynco, GA.  His friends and neighbors convinced and encourage Mike to consider  seeking out the California Highway Patrol (CHP) where he could do what he enjoyed most, helping people in need and drive all day. He applied and graduated from the CHP Academy Class CTC II-82 Company A with academic recognition.  Throughout his 30 years of service to the State of California as CHP Officer and  Sergeant he had many assignments mainly in Southern California.  He met many people and built many relationship based on a true sense of caring for everyone who crossed his path.   Mike enjoyed reading, traveling (especially if it involved driving cross-country), cruising and discussing politics.  His travels took him across several continents while enjoying the sites and the history of each location accompanied by friends and relatives. The civil war period was his favorite.

Mike, is survived by his wife Silvia Brey, his sisters Marquel Dopp, Desiree Espinoza and Lela Galarza; brothers Matthew Brey, Mac Brey and brother-cousin Glen Meihoffer and many other nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father Gerald Brey, mother Ann Brey, brother Mark Brey, and sister Lani Espinoza.
