Marion Jean (Pearson) McLean, was born in Los Angeles in 1930. Her family moved to Fallbrook, CA in 1947 to open the Hitching Post Malt shop where she met Don September 11 after his friend Russ asked if he had met the new girl in town yet. Marion wrote in her wedding memory book that Don sat on the second stool from the end near the grill and she put red hots in his limeade.
Marion was a Pioneer Days Princess, played softball, basketball, and was a song leader for the Fallbrook Warriors who won the championship that year. The following year, Marion and Don graduated and married December 3 while Don was on leave from the Navy.
Marion and Don raised two sons. Don was a firefighter and throughout the years Marion worked at the school lunchroom and concession stand, the Bank of America, and Dr. Manring's office where she used to take apple kuchin's that everyone loved. Marion also worked at Duke Snider Lanes and won a championship in the 600 Bowling club.
When Don retired from Camp Pendleton Fire in 1980, they traveled extensively in their RV. They loved visiting their many friends, fishing, playing poker, and going out to eat. They were co-owners of the Inland Sea restaurant when you could buy jumbo shrimp scampi for $5.95 and a beverage for 30 cents. From 1984 to 2004 they managed Crestview Estates in Fallbrook. They participated in many gem and mineral shows. Marion and Don, who received the Pioneer of the Year award from the Fallbrook Historical Society in 2011, devoted many hours to the Fallbrook Historical Society. They donated their family collection of gems for all to enjoy viewing at the historical society's museum.
Marion loved cheering for the Chargers and Padres and watching Hallmark movies and Dancing With the Stars.
Marion (Pearson) McLean is predeceased by her husband Don Sr, father William, mother Mildred, brother Jack, and sister Patti Haworth. Marion is survived by two sons, Donald P. McLean, Jr. (Marcie) of Fallbrook, and William D. McLean (Lisa) of nearby Valley Center, as well as Grandson's Kristopher McLean (Kristy), Matthew McLean (Trina), Granddaughter Lauren McLean Bush (Scott), and great grandchildren Kelly, Cade, Averie, and Ashlyn. Step grandchildren Tiffany, Jessica, Nicole, Erica, step great grandchildren Makayla, Paige, Daniel, Miranda (James), Alayna, Donovan, Jazmine, Jaxson, and step great granddaughter Ophelia.
Grandsons, Kris and Matt, and granddaughter, Lauren, are proud to be 3rd generation Fallbrook Warriors, and cherish their grandparent's legacy - "Once a Warrior, Always A Warrior"
Due to chronic health challenges, Marion had been living at Lifecare of Escondido since July 2016. On February 16, she was transferred to Palomar hospital. She was surrounded by family and passed peacefully on February 17, 2019 at 7:05 p.m.
