Obituary

Lorraine (Rainie) H. Foster passed away on 11/19/21 and her Husband John D. Foster passed away on 12/11/16. Both were 93 years old at the time of their passing.  John and Rainie were married on March 28, 1953 and their marriage was a story of 63 years of family love, joy and adventure.  John was born in Los Angeles in 1923 and Rainie was born in Susanville, CA in 1928.  They met at USC while Rainie took summer courses as a teacher and John pursued his Masters of Education.  They were introduced by a mutual friend, went to a dance together and John spent the next year driving up Hwy 395 to see Rainie in Reno, NV where she was teaching.  They started their lives and a family together in Lakewood, CA, California in 1953, moved to Long Beach, in 1963 and retired to their lovely avocado grove home in Bonsall, CA in 1986 which they built from an empty parcel of land into an oasis with passion for palms, exotic fruit trees and a love of the beauty of nature.  John and Rainie were loved for their entertaining whether it was a family holiday, birthday or USC football party. They were loved for their generosity with the abundance of their avocado grove, wine cellar, and constant kindness and humor to support family and friends. John and Rainie were natural and professional educators all their lives, setting an example of positive problem solving and hard work for their children and grandchildren always.  John was dedicated to honoring his country with stories of his World War II experience flying a B-24 bomber over Europe and Rainie kept strong ties with family and friends in Lassen County CA. They are survived by their son, John Stanton(Stan) Foster and his wife Elisabeth, and grandson John Tristan Foster, and daughter Holly Foster and her husband Grant Gutstadt and grandsons, Kyle Foster Gutstadt and Garrett Foster Gutstadt. John and Rainie were beloved parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends and lifelong role models of how to live life well, to the fullest each day, with kindness, joy, love and generosity of spirit to all.
