Kurt
Marti
Dec 23, 1933 — May 19, 2024
We are saddened to announce that Kurt Marti, wonderful husband, beloved father, and
grandfather passed away on May 19th, 2024 peacefully in his home at the age of 90 years old.
His love, humor, zest for life, willingness to take risks and commitment to his family will be
indescribably missed.
Kurt Marti was born in a small town called Aarwangen, Switzerland, on December 23, 1933. He
was the son of Peter Marti and Maria Imboden-Marti. He had two older siblings, Marlis and
Willy, who preceded him in death. He met his wife, Marianne, in a restaurant and they soon fell
in love. They were married on March 27, 1955. They had two sons, Peter and Walter who were
born in Switzerland. They soon decided that they wanted his family to start a new life outside of
Switzerland.
So, Kurt and his wife applied for visas to three countries, with the pact that they would move to
the first country who would approve their visa. It was Canada. In 1959 he emigrated to
Canada. He would fondly recount the story of him arriving in Canada without his family and
nowhere to go. Canada had assigned him to a town called Kitchener, but how was he to get
there? He was lost until a kind man helped him get to his destination. He was able to get
himself established, and then a few months later his family was able to join him. Kurt always
wanted a baby girl, this is where their daughter Katrin was born.
After enduring a few harsh Canadian winters, the visa application to move to the United States
was approved. Dreaming of laying under the palm trees of Southern California, they moved in
1964. He and his family lived in Southern California ever since, it is here he captured his
American Dream. He was proud of the day that he and his family became American citizens.
In San Dimas, California, he opened his own cabinet shop. This evolved into purchasing vacant
land and constructing custom homes. He built many custom homes from San Dimas to Rancho
Cucamonga to Bonsall. He stayed in contact with the Swiss community in Southern California
and built the "Swiss Park" in Whittier.
For relaxation he enjoyed raising puppies, showing and training Belgian Sheepdogs. He
became quite involved with several clubs and had many, what we called his "dog" friends. He
was one of the first to bring Schutzhund Protection Training and Trials to Southern California.
Upon retiring he traveled with his wife and friends extensively. He also loved to play the card
game of "Jass" with his family and friends. He eventually moved to Bonsall and has been a
resident for the past 24 years.
Kurt is survived by his wife of 69 years Marianne, his two sons Peter and Walter, his daughter
Katrin, and three grandchildren Heidi, Cindy and Kurt.
Kurt's family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to the caregivers that came into his
home. He was well-loved and well-cared for.
Words can not describe how much he will be missed. Rest in peace my beloved husband, dad,
and grandpa until we meet again…
