Kathleen Ann
Hardy
Dec 24, 1937 — Apr 28, 2023
Kathleen Ann Hardy, age 85, of Fallbrook, California passed away on April 28, 2023. Kathleen ("Kathi") was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
Born in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Robert and Rose Fitzpatrick, Kathleen spent her early years in Portland, Oregon. She was the doting eldest sister to four siblings. Kathleen had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She moved with the Fitzpatrick family to California in 1957, and lived in Hawaii, Texas, and Paris, France before settling in Southern California where she raised two children and built many lasting friendships. She also worked as a teacher, and was a business partner in a contract engineering firm.
Later in life, Kathleen met and married Richard ("Dick") Hardy. Kathleen and Dick were married in the Santa Cruz Mountains on July 2, 1995. All seven of their combined children and significant others attended the celebration. Kathleen and Dick lived in Los Gatos, California for several years. During this time, Kathleen embarked on a new career in the legal field, working as the office manager for a patent law firm in the Silicon Valley. In 2004, they moved back to Southern California to be closer to family. They enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing cards, cooking, and entertaining together at their homes in Temecula, and later in Fallbrook. The two were just about inseparable and shared many adventures together.
In retirement, Kathleen liked to keep busy and was a member of several clubs including the Fallbrook Woman's Club, Newcomers Club of Fallbrook, Fallbrook Encore Club, and Temecula Valley Garden Club. She was also active in her local Catholic Church. Kathleen was an avid reader and especially loved hard cover books. Although she lent her time and talents to many worthy causes, Kathleen most enjoyed spending time with friends and family, including her many grandchildren. Kathleen had an eye for beauty, and seemingly effortless style. Whether it be her prize-worthy roses, festive holiday decorations, or a uniquely-wrapped gift, Kathleen made everything special. She was known as a chic and classy lady with a big heart and huge smile.
Kathleen is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband Dick, children Shannon and Sean, grandchildren Jonah, Katelyn, Brody, Jack and Stella, stepchildren Mark, Sarah, Peter, Alexander and Brendan, step-grandchildren Carter, Jake, Sadee, Danny, Mark Jr., Brady and Bryce, and siblings Mary Alice, Donna, Robert, and Joseph.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Kathleen's honor on May 18, 2023 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Parish in Fallbrook. The following day, Kathleen will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, California.
