Joan Grace
Mcpolin
Nov 29, 1933 — Sep 15, 2020
Joanne Grace (Robideaux) McPolin, passed away in the early hours on the morning of September 15th, 2020, four months after the death of her beloved husband of 65 years, Jim. Joan was born on November 29th, 1933, to Bert and Rose Robideaux in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was the fourth of five girls. The family moved to Westchester, California, when Joan was eleven, much to her dismay. She loved Minnesota and treasured her visits back.
Joan graduated from Inglewood High School in 1951 and shortly thereafter moved with her family to Northridge, California, in the San Fernando Valley. Following graduation, she became a dental assistant and caught the eye of her future husband, Jim McPolin. Her father was not quite sure about his daughter dating a "sailor," but they were engaged in four weeks and married within the year. Soon after, Joan and Jim, had a daughter Laurie, a son Michael and sadly lost a daughter, Mary, hours after her birth.
Joan was an incredibly loving, talented and hardworking woman. Anything she put her mind to she excelled at. She was an excellent cook, seamstress and kept a beautiful home. With precise attention to detail, she created pottery, clay figurines and beautiful cloth dolls.
Another one of her interests and had always been a part of her life was ice skating. She was a graceful skater and had enjoyed her time on a competitive ice skating drill team.
In 1982, she and Jim moved to Bonsall, California, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. For a few years as a favor to a family friend, Joan became an administrative assistant for Unique Functional products, in San Marcos. Joan and Jim loved Bonsall and their new life centered around family, their home and the Catholic community at Camp Pendleton.
