Jo Ann "GOO" Smith, age 66, passed away September 11, 2020 due to COVID-19.  She was born April 3, 1954 in Fallbrook, CA. Graduated Fallbrook High School 1972 and member of the Pala Band of Mission Indians.

For many years (30+) Goo worked as the Director for the Pala Youth Center giving her time to the reservation children. The Pala youth paid attention when Goo spoke and believe it or not respected her.  Goo said "these darn kids keep me going and keep me young." Her unconventional discipline strategies with an assertive tone made sure they knew she meant business. Goo was a dedicated mother in her own way.  She treasured her children and embraced them with tough love.  She loved cooking, music, taking care of her family, and a good laugh with friends. She was always willing to lend an ear and offer what honest advice she could.

Jo Ann "Goo" Smith preceded in death by her father, Henry Smith, mother, Audrey Diaz, daughter Jennifer Russell and granddaughter, Mahala Munoz.  She is survived by daughters; Melissa Johnston, April Cantu, and son Lucas Russell.  Grandchildren; Michael Munoz, Gabriella Munoz, Izabella Munoz, Ernesto Gallegos, Amethyst Russell, Alyvia Russell, Tavis Russell, Aubrey Alvarez, and Zaiden Untalan
