Janice Record Hale Obituary
Janice Record Hale, age 95, joined her loved ones in heaven on Monday, April 10, 2023. She was born October 17, 1927 in the town of Hemet, CA to the late Robert G and Cornelia C Record.
After graduating high school in San Jacinto CA she attended Woodbury University in Los Angeles.
Mom told us she had a dream about a new boy arriving in San Jacinto. The next day Jay showed up! On October 12, 1946 they were married in Hemet, CA. They raised 4 children, remaining in the valley until 1969. Jay's job took them to Flagstaff, AZ; Denver, CO and finally San Francisco. Many friends were made along the way and mom kept in touch through the years.
During her school years Janice was a competitive swimmer and baton twirler. She found great joy in dancing, including tap.
Janice was a life long member of the American Legion Auxiliary (1944) following her mother's path. She was also a member of Hemet Alumni Association and National Association of Retired Postal Inspectors (as surviving spouse). Janice was an active parent in PTA and both boys and girls scouting.
Janice LOVED music. She was thrilled to hear her kids, grandkids, and greatgrands play any instrument and sing. While in her residential care home we installed ECHO. She kept ALEXA very busy with all her requests, being upset if "she" didn't find the songs requested!
Mom said her main "job" was wife and mother. She did work in the apricots at harvest time in Hemet. Janice also worked at the Hemet News and Hemet High School.
Janice supported her husband, Jay, throughout his military assignments and his postal inspector career.
Janice has a large "extended" family, all of whom went on her birthday card list. She could time a mailing to arrive on your special day. She had an amazing memory, keeping family history foremost in her mind.
Don't forget the NY Times crossword puzzles. When she couldn't see well you could read the clues and she would still get the answers!
Funny lady, with her often sarcastic sense of humor.
In 2006 Jay and Jan decided it was time to have extra help. They moved with their daughter Christy to Fallbrook CA. It was a big change after living so long in Pacifica CA.
Janice is survived by sons Jay Steven (Cookie) Hale of Fairfield CA, James Donald (Jacquie) Hale of Rio Vista CA, daughter Christy Phillips of Valley Center CA, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hale of Flagstaff AZ, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren, brother Robert C Record of Texas, and sister-in-law Grace Hoiland of Longbeach, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay W Hale, son John Lawrence Hale, parents Robert and Cornelia Record, sisters Joyce Gleason and Jeanine Walls.
Janice was most grateful for her hospice team who stayed by her side and gave support to daughter Christy until her final breath. We also want to thank her loving caregivers at the residential care home during her last year.
Services will be private. Jay and Janice will be scattered at sea, together forever.
Mom selected the following quote:
Death leaves a heartache
No one can heal
Love leaves a memory
No one can steal.
