Obituary

James Edward Feeney, a long time resident of Fallbrook, CA passed away of congestive heart failure on October 22, 2022.  He had just celebrated his 94 th birthday with his family and caregiver.  He was born on October 17, 1928 in Manhattan, New York. He came from a large family of Scotch/Irish immigrants of the McLaughlin Clan and loved to tell stories of growing up in the 30's in a working class family. Despite his advanced years, his memory was vivid and his sense of humor keen.  He was an insatiable reader, loved shortbread and the ocean, as he walked along the Oceanside pier.

James married Joan Veronica LeQueux Feeney in 1949. They had five children: Virginia Anne, James Edward (Jr), Patricia Agnes, Ellen Margaret, and Andrew William (who preceded his father in death in 2011).  Joan passed away in 1987. James is survived by many beautiful and amazing grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he loved and was so proud of…and who carry on the McLaughlin Clan motto: " Fortis Et Fidus " ("Brave and Faithful").

James married a second time, to Alma Cecile (Cece) Berwick, in 1990.  Cece also had five children with her late husband: Janet Hunter, Pamela Booker, Annie Jones, Shelli Berwick, and Colette Rudisill. James and Cece were married until her death in 2016. Her children and grandchildren were also beloved by James and Cece.

James became an electrical engineer and worked in the military industry. His claim to fame (besides his family), included designing the B2 Stealth Bomber.

James enjoyed traveling the globe, and his life was rich indeed. He followed the advice of his father, William Feeney, and told his children and grandchildren "If you walk every day, you will never die."  His 94-year life was a testament to this ideal, and also to his Catholic faith, which meant so much to him.

The visitation will be at Berry-Bell & Hall Funeral Home in Fallbrook, Thursday October 27 th from 4 – 8 pm.  His Funeral Mass will be at St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Fallbrook at 11 a.m.  His burial will be held immediately after at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery in Orange, CA at 2:00 p.m. When the bagpiper plays, James will be singing with the angels!
