Obituary

Frances "Fran" Printz McCormick was born on September 23, 1933, in Yreka, CA to Mary Josephine Wolford and Frank Albert Printz. She died on June 28, 2023, at her home of 47 years in Fallbrook, CA. She graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland, CA, and from UC Berkeley in 1954 with a BA in Political Science. She immediately entered the United States Marine Corps and served at Camp Lejeune, NC, and the Philadelphia Supply Center. As the youngest female commissioned officer on active duty, she married 1st Lt James Gabriel McCormick of Rutherford, NJ on May 14, 1955. They were married for 63 years until the Colonel died in 2018. Later in her life, she worked for H & R Block and eventually as a tax auditor for the IRS in Oceanside, CA. Fran is survived by her six children, Sharon (Richard) Carter, Valdosta GA, James (Kaye) McCormick, Overland Park, KS, Elizabeth Dean (Bob Lang), Hope, ID, Mark McCormick, ID, Susan McCormick, Bolingbrook, IL, and Jeffrey (Carrie) McCormick, Oakley, CA. She was a loving grandmother to 10 and great-grandmother to 8. She enjoyed needlework and sewing for her family. Tending to her yard's many roses, succulents, and plumerias was her passion. Fran celebrated all holidays but especially Christmas. Instead of flowers, please consider donating to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (support.nmcres.org) an organization for which Fran volunteered thousands of hours, or a charity of your choice.
