Elizabeth Marguerite "Betty" Reiner passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 5, 2016. Her kindness, warmth, deep love for family and friends, and endless compassion for others touched everyone who knew her, and she will be missed by so many. Betty has resided in Carlsbad for the last 57 years, and lived in San Diego County for the last 66 years.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on March 26, 1927, Betty graduated from Bayside High School in 1944 and Queens College in 1948. Following her college graduation her love for people led her to a career in social work which started in New York City in 1948, and she moved to Oceanside in 1950, where she continued her career as a social worker for San Diego County, retiring from the county in 1992.
In her free time Betty was an avid reader, loved to knit and sew, enjoyed traveling, and was active in multiple organizations, including the American Association of University Women and the Emblem Club. By far her biggest passion was spending time with her beloved family.
Betty is survived by son and daughter-in-law Robert and Melisa Reiner, son Brian Reiner, daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Edwin Baldwin, sisters Faith Carso, Jacqueline Strickland, sister and brother-in-law Constance and Larry Olds, brother Brian Carso, and grandchildren Bobby and Jennifer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert E. Reiner, and her brother Boniface Carso.
A graveside memorial is planned for 2 pm Monday, November 28, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma. The service will be ministered by St. Michael's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.
