Obituary

Edmund Leo Kuehl was born September 11, 1941 in Erie Pennsylvania to Chester and June Kuehl. At the age of 7, the family moved west and lived in Fontana California, where he attended and was a member of the band, playing the trumpet and drum major. He graduated from Fontana High School (FOHI) in 1959 and attended Chaffey College as an aeronautics major. Ed was drafted into the US Army in 1964 and served two years. While on leave, he went on a date with what would be today his wife, Mary Lou, who had also attended FOHI. On September 3, 1966, the two were married in Fontana, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They moved to Long Beach Ca. where Ed went to work for McDonald Douglas, building different aircraft, and took classes at Long Beach City College. On April 26, 1967, their son John was born. A few months later, the family moved to Sunnyvale, Ca where Ed went to work for Lockheed Martin, where he worked for several years. Deciding to make a career change, the family moved down to Stanton Ca. and purchased their first home, then Ed became a Farmers Insurance Agent in March 1971. A few months after becoming an agent, Ed and Mary welcomed their second child Kerry on October 27, 1971. He proudly worked and owned his own business as a Farmers Agent for 42 years before retiring in September 2014. The family of four established their home in 1975 in Placentia, where they lived for 37 years making lifelong memories and friendships along the way. Ed loved his family and was always able to attend his kids football games, tennis matches, band performances, rode dirt bikes with his son and friends, and took his family on many vacations traveling in the RV through many states and a trip to Puerto Vallarta. Ed and Mary were able to go on many memorable trips to Australia, New Zealand for their 25th anniversary, a cruise through the Panama Canal, a cruise down the coast of Italy and into Spain, and their last trip to Austria and Germany before he got sick. Ed was always making wise cracks, making people laugh, he found the love of cooking his family Sunday dinners, and best known for his Super Bowl extravaganza; no one ever left hungry and everyone was always welcomed. I believe his greatest joys later in life were his 5 grandchildren, attending their sporting events cheering them on, school programs and graduations. He was so proud of all of his grandkids and all of their accomplishments. The time finally came when it was time to retire, he finally found his dream retirement house in March 2014 in Fallbrook on 5 acres with many, many fruit trees. After completely remodeling the house, they moved into it in September 2014. His life was taken away from his family and friends way too soon from cancer, but he chose to fight the horrible disease the last 6 months so he could have that much more time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. September 3rd Ed & Mary would have celebrated their 50th Anniversary, a true testament of the love they had for one another, in good times and in bad. Ed fought the fight of his life and now is not suffering or in pain and passed away on April 5, 2016. There are not enough words or time to describe Ed and his life he had on earth. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and June, and his brother Chet. He is survived by his wife Mary, son John, daughter Kerry, daughter-in-law MaryBeth, son-in-law Ray, grandchildren Daylyn(20), Matthew(15), Kaylee(15), Daniel(12) and Erika(12), his nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations to be made on behalf of Ed to the American Cancer Society.
