Born March 7, 1941 to Walter Driver and Ila Callaway Driver

Died September 17, 2020

We are sad to announce the passing of our father Don Driver.   Dad was

bright, funny, loving and, above all, kind.  He loved nothing more than sitting

and talking with people, learning all about them and making friends pretty

much everywhere he went.   As Granddaddy once said, "Don never met a

stranger".   A family friend once summed him up by telling Mom that he

was a mensch.

Dad was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Navy.  He was

a Los Angeles police officer and an aerospace engineer during his career.  He

was a part of the large team of men and women that first put men on the moon.

He lived and worked for his family, taking over the daily family tasks of cooking

and marketing when Mom was stricken with debilitating arthritis.  Dad often

pulled recipes out of magazines, excited to try something new for dinner.  He

was a master of the crockpot in particular and coming home from school often

meant being greeted with the delicious smells of his hearty vegetable soup, or

maybe Popman's chili.  Asked once what he wanted on his tombstone Pop

half-joked "He was a good cooker".  He was that indeed.

Dad left phenomenally big shoes to fill for his children, Don Driver Jr.,

David Driver and Tracy Driver McCarthy.  He also loved with all his heart his

sister Elayne Driver Peru, daughters-in-law Lynette Ditto Driver and Suzanne

Stempel Driver and son-in-law Kelly McCarthy.  And the light and joy of his

life were his grandchildren Jessica Driver, Jordan Driver and David McCarthy

(and his special girl, a feisty black kitty named Ziva).  We will all miss Popman

terribly and are glad he has been reunited in Paradise with his Brown Eyed Girl

Marion Mooney Driver.
