Obituary

Daniel R Pullen Jr. was born on July 1st, 1954. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, September 26th, 2019.
Daniel was born in Pasadena, CA where he lived through his graduation at John Muir High School in 1972. After high school Daniel joined the Army and served in the 1st Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged in 1975 at the rank of Sergeant. When Daniel returned to Pasadena after his service, he reunited and later married his best friend on July 18, 1981.
Daniel spent his early adult years painting custom cars in a body shop, until the birth of his son Daniel. At that point he went back to school at Pasadena Community College and obtained his Associates Degree in Electrical Technology. Daniel excelled in his studies and received top honors in his college program, eventually being recognized in the school magazine for his achievements.
Daniel later went on to work in several areas of the electrical industry, including residential, commercial, industrial, and eventually retiring from Southern California Edison as a journeyman electrician at San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station. Daniel loved being an electrician, and he most enjoyed working with his son, Danny. In his spare time Daniel started his own business, Danco and Son Electric, where Daniel had the opportunity to work side by side with is son.
Daniel loved his children dearly and spent his off time attending baseball games, soccer practice, fishing and camping with his family. Daniel could also be seen at the baseball games cheering his son on. Daniel also attended and was an active participant and supporter of Nicole's dance competitions and recitals. Daniel, along with several other fathers, created a "Dad support group" called the "Rat Pack". The Rat Pack could be seen during the competitions, cheering, dressing, and assisting with make-up and costume adjustment before performances. The Rat Pack also provided a dance performance at the annual dance recitals. Daniel was especially proud that he had mastered a double pirouette.
Daniel was compelled through his faith to be of service, and in 2004 he founded Hope Through Education, a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing support to underprivileged families and orphaned children. Through donations and volunteer services, his foundation built an orphanage in Mexico, Casa Esperanza, which still operates today. Daniel also actively supported Gabriel's House which is an orphanage that housed severely disabled children who had been discarded by the community.
Above all else, Daniel loved the Lord. Daniel was a born again Christian, and man of incredible faith. Daniel spent his last years dedicating himself to his sobriety and his walk with Jesus.
Daniel is preceded in death by his father Daniel R Pullen Sr. and his mother Delores Pullen. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Janet Pullen, his sister Sharon Hughes, his son Daniel Pullen III, his Daughter Nicole Pullen, his Nephew Philip Munday Jr., his Son in-Law Staff Sgt. Michael Umhra, his daughter in-law Andrea Pullen, and his granddaughter Madison Pullen.
