Obituary – C. Walter Roush

Craig Walter "Wally" Roush, 98, of Fallbrook, CA passed away May 11, 2023, at Temecula Valley Hospital in Temecula, CA.

He was born December 23, 1924, son of the late Harry and Louise "Lou" (Gross) Roush. He attended Three Rivers, MI High School. Upon graduation he was drafted into the Navy with the Seabees and achieved the rank of CM3 where he served on Iwo Jima during WWII. Upon the conclusion of the war, he returned to Three Rivers on Christmas Day and two weeks later married his high school sweetheart, Jackie, on January 6, 1946. They were blessed with 75 years of marriage.

Wally attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and loved his Wolverines! He graduated in 1950 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After a brief stint working for General Motors in Detroit, he and Jackie moved to Midland, MI to work for Dow Corning. His adventures at Dow Corning had him and Jackie move to Southern California, visit Japan, move again to Guelph, Ontario, Canada and back to Midland, MI. Upon his retirement, he and Jackie once again moved back to Southern California where they traded their avocado orchard for a house in Fallbrook, CA in San Diego County.

Wally loved to travel and seeing the different geographies of the world. Whereas he played softball in his younger days and tennis in his middle years, his real sporting love was of golf. He even got Jackie hooked on the sport! That house in Fallbrook? It was on a golf course. Both he and Jackie played golf well into their 90's, a testament to their active lifestyle.

Wally was a member of Riverview Church in Fallbrook, CA where he was a frequent attendee.

Wally was the oldest of four brothers, which when they got together there would be much laughter, singing, and of course, golf to be played. He presented a good role model of what family should be. He will be missed by two children Terri (Jim) Benes of Lake Forest, CA, and Craig (Annette) Roush of Sheboygan, WI; grandchildren Matt (Missy) Benes, Bob (Amy) Benes, Katie (Pete) Lofthouse, Craig Roush, Scott (Terra) Roush, Amanda (fiancé Ken) Roush, and Kathleen Roush; great grandchildren, Jocelyn and Brooklyn Benes, Riley Benes, Zach Lofthouse, and Hunter Roush; and in-law Margaret Roush.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lou Roush, wife Jackie Roush, brothers Bob, Rich and Norm Roush, and in-laws Mary Roush, Nancy Roush and Mary Roush.

Wally's life will be honored at a memorial at Miramar National Cemetery in Sand Diego, CA where he will join Jackie once again. Date yet to be determined.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Temecula Valley Hospital for their care of our father.
