Obituary

On Sunday morning, 9/27/20, Christopher John Quartly entered the presence of his Lord Jesus.  While difficult for his surviving family and his many friends, we know he is at peace and completely healed.  His family members left behind are his wife, Janet, his children, Steven (Natalie) and Karyn (Imel), his amazing grandchildren, Nevaeh, Ashton, Molly, Zion, Max and Reed. There are also nieces and nephews with grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as family in England.  All were much loved by Chris.

He grew up in an idyllic place and at an idyllic time. He and his family moved to Coronado very early in Chris's life.  As an adult, he loved to take visitors to the island and point out where his playmate John McCain, the Pendletons and the Nimitzes lived.

Chris earned his BA at San Diego State where he was a very active member of SAE fraternity. He also took on the role of President of the Interfraternity Council.

Chris served in the USAF, followed by service in the Air Force Reserves. There he achieved the rank of Captain. He often spoke fondly of his years on base in San Antonio. After his honorable discharge, he went to grad school at UC Berkeley to earn a Master's Degree in Business.

Afterwards, he was hired into a management position at Pacific Telephone/PacBell/AT&T. He was with them when he met Janet, who worked across the hall. They had 50+ years of a wonderful marriage! After 25 years of very fulfilling work, he took early retirement as a Division Manager. His second career was as an insurance broker. He formed Quartly Associates, which he found equally fulfilling.

Besides his family, he enjoyed golf, tennis, reading and telling humorous stories.  (Ah, those stories!)  He was a great example of living out his faith, evidenced by encouraging others.  To his children and grandchildren he left a legacy that will undoubtedly continue to future generations.

A private burial will take place at Miramar National Cemetery with Military Honors. A public Memorial Service is Pending.
