Obituary

Carl passed away peacefully at home on Saturday October 17, 2020 at the age of 92. Carl was the eldest of ten children who were raised on a farm in Michigan. After proudly serving in the Army in WWII, Carl went on to become an airline mechanic. With his intelligence and natural ability he was able to work his way up to airline Captain for T.W.A. He was known as the "silver fox" for his gorgeous head of white hair. He had a quick wit and loved telling jokes, one of his favorites was "Do you know why an airplane has propellers - it's to keep the Captain cool, if you don't believe me watch one of them quit and you'll see the Captain sweat". Carl flew all around the world until his retirement in Fallbrook California
Carl is survived by his wife Joan, daughters Carlene Coates (Michael), Barbara Burdette (Timothy) many grandchildren and a great granddaughter who all loved him dearly. He will be missed
In lieu of flowers, memorial https://www.honorflightsandiego.org/support-hfsd/ contributions may be made to San Diego Honor Flight in his memory. A private family goodbye will take place at Miramar National Cemetery
