Betty Nordeen Stoffel


Fallbrook—Betty Nordeen Stoffel, 85, passed away at her home in Fallbrook, California, March 12, 2013. Born in Stet, Missouri, on March 26, 1927, Betty was the youngest of seven children born to Henry Olan Hess and his wife Rozetta.
Betty attended Central High School in Stet, Mo. and was valedictorian of her graduating class in 1944. After graduation she moved to Kansas City where she worked as a secretary. In 1947 she moved to Los Angeles, CA. and continued her work as a secretary. In 1949 she met and married Richard Nordeen. In 1950 "Dick" and Betty had their first son, Steven and in 1953 a second son David. After the boys were in school, Betty returned to her profession in 1959 with the City of Inglewood. She retired in 1974 as Deputy City Clerk of the City of Inglewood. She and "Dick" retired to Fallbrook to realize their farming dream. They became charter members of Christ The King Lutheran Church. Betty loved her church and was involved in golfing, the Bonsall Women's Club and the U.S. Navy League. In 1984, after 35 years of marriage, Richard passed away. In 1986 Betty married Sidney Stoffel. They lived happily together for 22 years until "Sid's" passing in 2009.
Betty is survived by her two sons Steven Nordeen (Janet) and David Nordeen (Cathy) and three step children, Greg Stoffel (Debi), Cyndi Stewart (Glenn) and Dawn Owen (Jim). In addition she is survived by 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who always had time for her family, friends and church.
A celebration of her life will be held at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 1620 Stage Coach Lane in Fallbrook at 1:30 PM Saturday, March 23, 2013.
