Obituary

Betty Ray was born on January 3, 1924 in Ogden, Utah. She departed peacefully at the age of 91 on September 6, 2015 to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, and to join her husband, son, family and friends that passed before her. There are no words to describe our loss but there are many to describe the character of this amazing lady.

She was raised on a small farm in Layton, Utah with three brothers. Her father was an immigrant from Amsterdam and met her mother Nettie shortly after he came to America. They had a peach and cherry orchard, along with tomato and other vegetable gardens. Betty's father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and her mother was a homemaker. She moved to California at the age of nineteen and never wanted to go back (except to visit) to that "freezing cold place." Betty worked alongside many other women during World War II as one of the "Rosie the Riveter" gals. She worked in the shipyards and factories while her three brothers went off to fight the war.

In 1951, she married Clifford Ray in a small Las Vegas wedding. Cliff worked most of his life for General Motors, and Betty worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company. Their daughter Jody was born in 1957. In 1970 they purchased a small "Mom and Pop" hardware store in Stanton, CA. They lived a variety of places throughout Southern California and retired in 1982 in Oceanside, California. Cliff and Betty were married for 33 wonderful years.

Betty's only true love Cliff left this earth so quickly in 1984. What comfort it gives us to know they are together again. Betty and Cliff loved the outdoors and spent countless hours gardening and many years camping, traveling across the United States. Cliff always loved to fish so she would wait on the shore for him as she never learned to swim and didn't care much for boat rides. Betty was an amazing seamstress, cook, homemaker, caretaker, chauffeur, and gardener. She found the most joy in helping and feeding everyone around her! Everyone knew her as Grandma Betty and her smile was beautiful and directly from her heart ~ her smile is one of the things we will all miss the most. Grandma Betty loved to eat pancakes, pizza and donuts…and to laugh out loud a lot, especially at I Love Lucy shows!

Betty was the most selfless woman, clear to her last breath. She was so easily content and satisfied with the simple things in life, she was never distracted by the riches of this world. She loved her family so deeply and was always so grateful for the life God had given her. She served her Lord to the fullest, and demonstrated the love of Jesus wherever she was.

She is Mother to Jody (and Richard) Duffy of Fallbrook, CA. She is Grandma to Tiffany (and Sam) Jones of Temecula, CA. Scott (and Kristy) Duffy of Fallbrook, CA. Colton Duffy of Fallbrook, CA. She is Great Grandma to Luke Ray and Clara Veda of Temecula, CA.

To know Grandma Betty was to love her, and we will all miss her so much!
