Barbara Lynn
Chambliss
Feb 23, 1954 — Mar 10, 2022
In loving memory of a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
It is with tremendous sadness that her family shares the news that Barbara Chambliss passed away on March 10, 2022 at 68 years of age after a short battle with gastric cancer. She was surrounded by family at home, and her passing was quick and peaceful.
Barbara was born on February 23 in Pensacola, FL, to Daniel and Alice (Niquette) Bergman, and was the oldest of six siblings. As part of an active military family, Barbara grew up all over the country before marrying Charles Chambliss and settling in Fallbrook, CA in 1980. She spent her early adult years raising her three children before starting part-time work in education with the Fallbrook Union School District. It was important for her to do something meaningful with her life and she quickly found her passion in special education. While working full-time and continuing to raise her children, Barbara earned bachelor's and master's degrees at CSU San Marcos. She spent the bulk of her career as a Special Education teacher at the Mike Choate Early Childhood Education Center. For over 20 years, Barbara worked closely with parents, psychologists, and speech therapists to educate and evaluate children for intellectual disabilities, autism, language impairments, and more. She retired in 2019 but was quickly invited back as a substitute teacher; she missed the work so much!
Barbara leaves behind three loving children: Laurie Chambliss of San Diego, Joseph Chambliss of Carlsbad, and David Chambliss of Puerto Vallarta, MX; two granddaughters, Nicole and Natalie La Fond; four siblings, numerous friends, and admiring coworkers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Alice Bergman, and brother Danny Bergman.
A visitation service will be held at Barry-Bell and Hall Mortuary, 333 N. Vine St., Fallbrook, on March 30 from 4-8pm.
Catholic Mass will be held at St. Peter's Church, 450 S. Stagecoach Lane, Fallbrook, on Thursday, March 31 at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.
