Adoree Christine
Comer
Oct 27, 1930 — Sep 28, 2019
Adoree was born to Gladys and Henry Knutson of Alexandria, Minnesota on October 27, 1930. She was named after a popular French actress of the era – Renée Adorée – despite her parents being unsure of the name's exact spelling or pronunciation. After graduating from high school in Alexandria, she attended a nearby business college, and eventually moved to Minneapolis to work at the FBI's Minneapolis field office.
While employed in the FBI's clerical pool during the early 1950s, Adoree met her soon-to-be husband, 2nd Lieutenant Andrew G. Comer (USMC), on a blind date. They married less than a year later, and in 1953 began the always on-the-move life of a military family. Over the years, military orders took Andy and Adoree (and their four children) to Topeka, Kansas, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, Quantico, Virginia, and lastly to Camp Pendleton, California, where Andy retired as a Major. They have spent their last fifty years living in Fallbrook.
For most of her adult life, Adoree was a dedicated stay-at-home mom, lovingly raising her children, however when her youngest graduated from high school, Adoree re-entered the workforce as a salesperson at The Collector, a fine jewelry store in town selling rare minerals and objets d'art. Working at The Collector was a perfect match for Adoree, who was a gifted decorator and aficionado of all things pretty and shiny. During her 24 years at The Collector, Adoree acquired quite the jewelry collection and had the opportunity to travel to Europe and mingle with the elite gem traders of the world.
Adoree passed away on September 28, 2019, a month short of her 89th birthday. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, her four children: Nancy (Comer) Johnson, Carol (Comer) Slack, Craig Comer, and Gary Comer and their spouses, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She was both a devoted wife and mother who will be greatly missed.
